A person who has been sentenced to life imprisonment may make an application to the Governor, every ten years, requesting that the sentence be commuted to a term of years. This also applies to a person sentenced to a mandatory minimum of years to serve.
A commutation reduces the sentence by any number of years, months, or days, or makes the individual eligible for parole.
In some circumstances, yes. Each situation depends on the commutation granted by the Governor.
